Writer's block...
I've got it. It's bugging me.
Long story short: I recently (on Halloween) broke up with my ex of 2 years because one of her friends called me and told me she had cheated on me multiple times; the first of which being last January while I was on tour. Multiple times with multiple guys. Since this I've felt the need to write songs and lyrics, but for some reason haven't been able to put anything I feel is worthwhile together. This is frustrating as fuck considering I was planning to take solace in the fact that this could maybe fuel some creativity for a while. So what do you guys do when you feel like you need to be productive, but just can't seem to? |
Write a Nu-Metal Jam.

Hahaha that's one style I've never attempted to tackle. Now I think I have to just to see the outcome. I assume it'll be horrible. |
Go look at other people's work and see if it sparks something.

There's no such thing. Just write. You're trying too hard.
|
are you trying to write about how much you're pissed she was cheating on you? Maybe switch up the mind, write about how much better you are without her. #positivity #youcandoitman

Force yourself to write something, at least. In my experience that will get creativity flowing again a lot quicker than waiting it out for something spontaneous.

just relax, make sure you're breathing. It'll be easier to sublimate this experience into something meaningful when a little more time has passed. It'll probably hit you like a train and you'll just start pumping that shit out like a factory. In the meantime just work when you can but there's no shame in tabling it when you get frustrated. If it's not happening it's just not.

Sometimes a smoke a little marijuana and ponder the topic at hand for hours. Gets me looking at everything from a different angle. Then of course i come back soberly and write, haha.
Also, maybe try to find some inspiration in other music. That almost always helps. Good luck man, we've all been there. Sometimes you just have to wait it out and let the writing come naturally. |
In this case listen to Glassjaw
