Samsara (Ron Fricke, 2012)
Do you enjoy casually watching time-lapses on youtube? Do you want to take that interest to the next level? Watch Samsara. In all seriousness, this film is worth your time. Its shots make the mundane spectacular. While they're used to present a pretty cliche narrative about an unsustainable society that is shouted from the rooftops by ppl with Jill Stein bumperstickers, it'll heighten your appreciation for the world we live in. |
a mediocre film with typical Fricke cinematography as cloying and manipulative as any run of the mill indie rom-com. was definitely perrrrrrty. i still haven't gotten around to seeing the Qatsi Trilogy, but i'm sure it's the finer work.

"cloying and manipulative" is a good description, yes. I'm all about seeing bootiful stuff on the big screen doe.
That scene with the businessman putting clay/mud/whatever on his face...so unnecessary, so overwrought. |
we all need a little eye candy from time to time.

Baraka is incredible, hopefully this lives up to it

Saw it projected in 70mm. It was a beautiful sight to behold.

I've been contemplating watching this but I don't think it would be able to hold my attention at home the same way it would have if I had seen it when it played here.

I'm trying to figure it out, but all I can manage is that Samsara probably changed his life and I dropped a little poop on it. |
