"Unobstructed Views" is the best song on the album.

I'd take the melodies of at least eight Kintsugi songs over any of the melodies on Codes and Keys.

There are probably songs I like as much as "Hang" in their catalog, but I wouldn't say any of them hit me as hard. That song is just heartbreaking.

That is the beauty of music. I just don't understand why one of these albums has to win. They are both profound statements about one of the most painful experiences in life. They aren't a competition.

Yeah, definitely in my top five for most anticipated. Feels like No One Listens to the Band Anymore was ages ago. All the tracks we've heard so far are great, too.

I really loved Something to Be when it came out. Hardly ever revisit it, and I'm not a fan of much of the mid-section. But there are some great songs on there, like "Ever the Same," "Streetcorner...

Interesting. For me it was the opposite. I had a very visceral emotional response to Butch's album on first listen, whereas this one took three or four listens to really hit me.

Yeah, I gave Butch a perfect 10. I've done it a few times for retrospective reviews, like Futures and Letters. In retrospect, I would have scored that Noah Gundersen album higher than the 9 I gave...

I feel like I caused the score comments I apologize.

But yeah, I spend about six seconds deciding what numerical score to assign to an album, unless I'm giving a 10, which is usually something I've...

Haha, I'm just giving you a hard time. I liked Codes a lot more when it came out, too. It made my top 25 that year. I still like a handful of songs, though, and "You Are a Tourist" is one of them.

Bon Iver and Iron & Wine haven't written records that sound like this since 2007 and 2004, respectively.

Ryan it already makes me sad that this is 2.5 points lower than what you gave Codes & Keys, don't change the score. Haha

I like "Hold No Guns," though I do understand why it might be seen as out of place by some. Everything else on here is pretty polished, and that song is very raw/live-sounding.

And they haven't had any box office trouble since what, the Dalton era?
