I enjoyed AFFC and ADWD, but I read all the books back to back. I can see how people would dislike them if they had been waiting for years for the next book though.

I definitely think it's worth it...

Well there wasn't any news about him being cast, and D&D have said they held off on introducing a lot of ACOK characters, so most people seem to not be expecting him.

Yeah the production value would suffer a lot if they upped the episode count. You have to remember also, the episodes are an average of 52 minutes or so as opposed to the 42 minutes you'd be getting...

The only changes that have REALLY bothered me...

The only changes that have REALLY bothered me have been Talisa and the lack of Sansa. Dany has been weird this season but that seems more due to little things with her writing than the plot changes.
