Butch Walker's Afraid of Ghosts is way more powerful if you know he wrote it to work through the grief of losing his father. Bruce's Tunnel of Love is way more powerful if you know it was essentially...

I think personal opinion and artist intent are both important. Knowing the origin behind that Foo Fighters album made me enjoy it a lot more. Knowing what went into something can make it easier to...

I thought "American Love" sounded odd from the first time I listened. I don't think I would have ever put my finger on "this is something he put together from pieces of old songs," but I also think...

I mean, it's always felt pretty meaningless to me. None of the lyrics connect to each other. He said himself that he stitched it together from unfinished songs. Compare it to something like...

Stephen, on Twitter:

"Sometimes real feelings creep into a scene. Goodbyes are tough. Even when they're scripted."

"Still, we probably won’t fully appreciate the reach of Hot Fuss for another five years, when the generation of kids who drank, screwed, and did drugs for the first time to this record start...

Yes Chris, I know that's your favorite song on the album. I still think it's bad.

It's on my computer! Just haven't listened yet because I was on vacation this weekend. Tomorrow.

Interested to hear them go in a different direction. The stuff Mumford did for The New Basement tapes was great, so I have faith that he could make a decent album again.

I wouldn't say bland sounding, I just think it makes for a jarring flow. Some songs just clash against one another. "Annie" should have been the third or fourth track on the record; "What Gets You...

Yeah, TGP starts really strong and finishes really strong, but something about how the tracklist is sequenced in the middle has always bothered me. I don't dislike "What Gets You Off," "Suicide...

Definitely his weakest full-length. A few really solid songs, but most of it sounds like retreads of stuff he's done better in the past.

There's plenty of filler on that album. Most of it is just on the first disc. "We Exist," "Flashbulb Eyes," and "You Already Know" are easily the weakest tracks on that record, and they're all in the...

I also think those two are connected, since EIT is the departure and P&T is the homecoming.

I think EIT is easily, considering that it's a semi-conceptual piece, but P&T is a close second.

"Television," "Racing Thoughts," and "Hostage" are my favorites on that record.

It's interesting: I really love P&T, but don't think it has a clear standout.

That album is stacked with great songs. "Hammers & Strings" and "Crashing" would both be in my top 10. But I just don't think the album ever becomes more than the sum of its parts.

I have such mixed feelings about TGP. On one hand, it came out at a really important time in my life and I played the absolute hell out of it that summer/fall. On the other hand, when I listen to it...

I like that album a lot, but it's his weakest full-length. Just not as cohesive or impressive as it could have been. "American Love" is a big part of the problem.

Ehh, I like it more than I used to, but I still think it's a grating chorus with weak verses.
