Advent is awesome, so heavy. I saw them at RevGen a few years ago and it really made me want to move. Sleeping Giant (in my eyes) totally blows, so boring.. I always see people linking that video of a bunch of dudes jumping around with a simple tom beat, and both guitarists just hitting the open chord over and over while yelling something like "This is Jesus' day!" It made me cringe. It also seemed like an Elevation Worship/Jesus Culture video but with hardcore dudes.

Also Dead Poetic used to be one of my favorites, totally forgot about them.

I don't listen to them much, but they have a sick sound and probably would have been a blast to see live. They played a free fest in Pittsburgh a couple years ago that I sadly missed.

Sleeping Giant is one of the top bands I want to see that I haven't yet; they're also probably my favorite currently active heavy band (between them and Project 86). I don't care for the Jesus Culture style of worship at all, but Sleeping Giant's heavier, hardcore-influenced execution of that sound with "Tithemi" (the song you probably mean) gets me so pumped. The song is just long enough, just simple enough, and builds and releases just enough to be effective.

I love them because they take my favorite elements of hardcore, metalcore, nu metal, and post metal and meld them into a sound that's right up my alley. I can't think of a band that does their specific sound as well as they do.

I was just listening to them the other day. I'm in the minority, but my favorite release of theirs is Vices by quite the margin. Beyond a few exceptions, their screaming tended to sound pretty bad, like it was just there because it had to be, so when they dropped it altogether, they sounds so much tighter and more natural.

As a whole, though, I think they're good but not that great.

I just don't see it. Seems like your typical Christian entry level nu-metal/metalcore band and I don't see any post metal influence in there at all.

I feel the same way, I thought Vices was so much better. Like I said, I used to enjoy them a lot, but now I just think they're good.

What have you heard of theirs? Their slower songs definitely have an early Jesu influence to them.

Paste Magazine debuted Sleeping at Last's music video for the song "Emphasis" from the November EP. So good.

I happen to be listening to New Medicines right now. It has sentimental value, but even so it's decent. I never listened to Vices, but I have heard good things. It's hard to find the motivation to listen to that when I need to get to so much else, and I already have a Dead Poetic record. I didn't keep a lot of my old T&N/Solid State rock, but I have hung on to this one and I Am Hollywood (and Never Take Friendship Personal..but that CD is legit).

Dead Poetic wouldn't rank that high on my Tooth and Nail list, lol. That would go to mewithoutYou, Starflyer 59, Joy Electric, Project 86, He is Legend, etc. Guess nostalgia is mighty strong though. Same reason I adore Haste the Day.

New Ascend the Hill single, "So Good To Us," is up on their site for stream and download.

At first listen, the song is much better than anything else I've heard from them before. Hard to explain why, since it's not a dramatic reinvention or anything. They just seem to be doing what they do generally better. Has a nice groove to it. I'm pumped to hear the song(s?) with Dustin Kensrue.

vocals sound similar to Balance & Composure but less minor-y if that makes any sense

Yeah makes sense. The Dead Poetic record is just really hooky and I can rock out to it once in a while. I wasn't considering mewithoutYou, I do like them. I'm actually listening to Brother, Sister now for the first time in a year or two...I could never really get into it like I got into Foxes, but I'm enjoying it today. I had a Haste the Day CD, but they weren't one of the ones I stuck with. The song 'Substance' is pretty cool...I do like their first CD, 'That They May Know You'.

Which DP record? My apologies if you already answered this question, too lazy to go thru 90+ pages...I have Vices, and while it isn't my fav thing ever, its fun. And of course "New Medicines" and "Bury the Difference" were strong singles.

I guess this is why I love them, or at least used to. /shrug

Loving the song. Sounds slightly different but loved the end with multiple vocals, great worship track, really solid lyrics! I love Ascend the Hill!

I don't know about it. I think I need to hear within the full scope of the album.
