America Used BitTorrent To Download 759 Million Songs...

Posted by: Thomas Nassiff (10/03/12)
A report by MusicMetric shows that Americans used BitTorrent to illegally download 759 million songs (assuming 10 songs per album) throughout the first half of 2012. The most active city for illegal downloads was Gainesville, Fla., with other small towns (Albany, GA; Fairbanks, AK; Lexington, KY; Tallahassee, FL) being listed as other high offenders. This information was rated per capita. The report lists YouTube as the most popular website for listening to music. Check out the full rundown here.
From the Article Across the USA, the most downloaded releases were Lil Wayne and Drake's The Motto (438,038 downloads), Drake's Take Care (453,933), Jay-Z and Kanye West's Watch The Throne (365,987), Big Sean's Finally Famous (352,623), and Tyga's Rack City (304,292).

Fairbanks can have this one. I get it: there's nothing to do in Alaska. But, 2 Florida cities in the top 5? Shame.

Crazy conspiracy theory of the day: Gainesville's numbers are so high in part due to Grooveshark paying their employees to upload material (which is already rumored to have happened). Either that or Thomas just really likes his torrents.

Where are they getting their data from anyways? Is it just a large survey? Or do they somehow have access to more logs and stuff.
