Sure, it shows promise, promise that wasn't really reached in a full length record capacity, but as a standalone piece of music, the mixtape is OK at best

Agreed. I'm not expecting an album where all tracks are great. I'm mostly expecting an average album with a few above average-average tracks. And I'll be happy with that.
