I actually used to live on the border of upstate ny so it was was weird to see heavy drilling and then 10 minutes away absolutely no drilling at all. There was a huge push against it at first, but from what I understand that's lessening as the economy continues to suck. Its hard when you see people going from making 10 dollars an hour in a shitty factory to making 25+ dollars an hour driving around and doing much easier work. Also farmers are making a ton of money selling their gas rights. So I think its just a matter of time before upstate NY is turned to shit as well.
Pittsburgh area, where I live now, had a push against drilling at first but now its everywhere just outside the city. Not to sound like a bullheaded marxist, but this is capitalism. Its inevitable.
