Parts of this sort of topic were being discussed in the election thread. Essentially West states that Obama is a republican. Nothing new.

The way Cornel West phrased it might be a bit different than others though :

They weigh in on the media, fox news, msnbc, politics in general, etc. Especially focused on poverty issues. It's pretty interesting. Just curious as to what some other posters on the site think of this. Not really curious about what others think, but yeah. (Please, no Illuminati talk).

i'm a big fan of those guys, and more or less agree with everything they said.

btw, the rich and the rest of us is worth a read even for many of the people here who probably already know most of the grim statistics concerning poverty in recent years.

I've seen both of them on various programs. They seem to confuse free market capitalism with crony capitalism, as do most on the left. I think they unfairly attribute certain problems to capitalism instead of corrupt government. And of course, they see only increased government as the solution for these problems, particularly poverty. They seem like good guys though, just misguided in my opinion.

You have to understand that as a socialist Christian West probably finds any idea that could be tied back to Ayn Rand as anti-thetical to the Gospel. My favorite interview was the one with Hannity, where West kept calling Hannity "brother Sean". Warmed my heart.

I mean it is true that Obama and Romney basically completely ignored the lower class and the issue of poverty during the election (except for Romney to try and demonize those classes).

Not that big government is the perfect solution but poverty drastically fell under LBJ's war on poverty. Government in the past has proven effective at reducing poverty rates, I don't see why it wouldn't work now.
