Pretty & Nice are a Massachusetts quartet. Their acclaimed LP Get Young was released by Hardly Art and this, their third album, marks the group's first foray on Pax Natural. The band wrote and recorded the EP themselves.
How is it?
Awesome. "Hibernate," the lead single is a freewheeling and effortless slab of sun-drenched indie-pop that hits at the halcyon memories of summers gone by. The song teeters back and forth from soft to quiet and darts with a quiet confidence that announces rather quickly the arrival of a fresh new indie-pop juggernaut. The Boston quartet makes the most of the four songs and packs a wallop from start to finish. "Hyena," is quirky, cute and slightly comical. Vocalist Holden Lewis's falsetto marries well with the punchy and impassioned chorus. On the urgent and jittery "Capsules," the band hits at the very core of what makes them great. This is accessible, arty and not surprisingly, amazing. Catchier and crisper than anything else on the EP, "Capsules," is the sound of a band putting their best foot forward and shaking their asses while they do. And it is that sense of whimsy that permeates "Dan's Heart," a ringing and raucous affair that much like its predecessors does very little to disappoint.
Perhaps what makes Us You All We so charming is that the quartet seems to understand the power of brevity. This isn't a long-winded and exhaustive EP. Its four short songs that make the most of their time and steer clear of superfluous details, layers and trivialities. In an era when filler is all too commonplace, these four songs serve as a lesson to those just starting out. Less is more. One listen to Us You All We is veritable proof of that.
I LOVE THIS EP! Their last LP, Get Young, left me wanting more, and this EP has just left me wanting even MORE. Can't wait for the next LP! You can't help bopping, tapping and dancing along to their music. So much fun :D
