Brendan Kelly Offers (Dead On) Interview Advice

Posted by: Jason Tate (12/03/12)
Brendan Kelly (The Lawrence Arms) offers some advice for would-be interviewers.
From the BlogSo, here’s the worst possible interview questions that you can be asked, in no particular order: “What does your band sound like, for those people out there who haven’t heard you?” “Who are your influences?” “What does your band name mean?” and finally, my personal least favorite “What’s the craziest thing that’s ever happened to you on tour?” Let’s go through these one by one and discuss why they’re questions that suck.

If a band's name's origin isn't on Wikipedia, it's a fair question to ask (and answer) once.

I had a laugh or two reading his post. I can only imagine how maddening it must be to answer the same 10 questions over and over again.

What's wrong with asking a band about what their band name means or originates from?

Because it's usually information readily available on Wikipedia or any fan site. It shows that the interviewer hasn't done his/her research.

But aren't interviewers supposed to inquire info for the fans, not for the interviewer..?

Great read, but fuck me his website is ugly. The font colour and the background make my eyes hurt. It'd take about 1 minute to change that into something less horrible.
