Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with all of those in Connecticut today. The news of this latest school tragedy shakes me to my core. I wish I could say, or do, something that would make a difference right now ... but I can't. All I can do is urge everyone that reads these words to not let this be another crime that fades with time and no action take place.
As someone who works in a public elementary school, this is absolutely horrifying. My thoughts go out to the families and the community of Newton as a whole.
That being said, can someone tell me why the hell we haven't reinstated the assault weapons ban that expired in '04 yet? Why?
It's important, particularly during trying times like this, to remember that the world is not all bad. Tell those you love how you feel. Hug someone. Compliment a stranger. Hold the door open for people. Do whatever you can to make the world a better place.
Thank you. And it needs to go deeper than posting something like "thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved." It is a nice sentiment but something needs to be done. My biggest fear is that in a few days people will fall back into complacency and nothing will be changed.

I don't think we should make public on who the shooter was. I just think it's publicizing some fucked up kid who probably did this for attention. Give the attention to those who need it most. The kids, parents, friends. Such a fucked up world we live in.
