Kim Dotcom is such an assclown.

Doing the encryption in the browser is interesting (and from what I've read the service remains buggy); however, the entire point is obviously for plausible deniability.

I hope this makes Google Drive and Dropbox up their free offerings by a few gigs though.

Interesting read. I'm personally gonna stay away from it for downloading media, but that 50gb looks awesome for sending preproduction and artwork and such around while workin on our new album.

I was thinking this too.

Also, I feel like artists could somehow use this to make leaks rarer, I just don't know how yet.

But I don't think the positives outweigh the negatives.

Best comment I've seen on this: "encryption is the people's DRM." The case against MegaUpload has been such a colossal clusterfuck that I'm excited for the new service if only for the fact that it's basically a giant middle finger to the short-sighted entertainment companies and the government (ignoring, of course, all of the legitimate, useful reasons for using such a service).

This is a good "idiot's guide to". Anyone seriously interested should look further (and likely already have).

In any case, leave it to the music industry to react slowly and get buttfucked repeatedly in the process. They're almost as slow as the television and movie industries.
