Who else here has seen this film? Watched it again this past weekend with my parents, and loved it even more this time around. Probably my favorite film on "war", out of all the "war" movies I've ever seen. I really like how it philosophically dives into the meaning of war that no other war does as well. It's fairly long, but so worth it until the end. As someone who got really close to entering the Navy, and have seen almost every popular war movie out there, this one is probably my favorite. I feel you could almost dedicate a whole college class to this film.

"I've lived with these men, sir, for two and a half years and I will not order them all to their deaths."

"We were a family. How'd it break up and come apart, so that now we're turned against each other? Each standing in the other's light. How'd we lose that good that was given us? Let it slip away. Scattered it, careless. What's keepin' us from reaching out, touching the glory?"

"Where is it that we were together? Who were you that I lived with? The brother. The friend. Darkness, light. Strife and love. Are they the workings of one mind? The features of the same face? Oh, my soul. Let me be in you now. Look out through my eyes. Look out at the things you made. All things shining."

"This great evil. Where does it come from? How'd it steal into the world? What seed, what root did it grow from? Who's doin' this? Who's killin' us? Robbing us of life and light. Mockin' us with the sight of what we might've known. Does our ruin benefit the earth? Does it help the grass to grow, the sun to shine? Is this darkness in you, too? Have you passed through this night?"

"What difference do you think you can make, one man in all this madness?"

"Why should I be afraid to die? I belong to you. If I go first, I'll wait for you there, on the other side of the dark waters. Be with me now."

One of the best films of the last twenty years. The only rivals are Terrence Malick's other films.

Great movie and one of the most star-studded casts of the last 25 years (though not all were stars in '98).

My third or fourth favorite Malick. The Criterion Blu is jaw-dropping.

When this and Saving Private Ryan came out, my friend was a lot more into SPR and I never looked at him the same way

I watched this for the second time this past week and it went from my least favorite to favorite Malick. Stunning.

I've read that there is a director's cut, that's like near 4 hours long, but I guess it just hasn't been released.

There is no such thing as a four hour cut. Malick shoots a lot more than he uses. It will never happen.

I think it's more of the fact that, we'd love to see all the extra footage he shot
