Has anyone here joined or know anyone who's joined the Peace Corps? I'm in the process of filling out my application now and was curious if I could get some feedback (positive or negative) in here before I made my submission. Thanks. :)

Its really hard to get into.
With more university under your belt, the better your chances.
But even that, good luck getting the country you want.
Just being real, from what PeaceCorps friends have told me.

Plus, once you're there, you're on your own.
You don't have a Peace Corps supervisor or anything like that.
But it'll look great on your resume.

(I myself would consider just traveling on my own accord, but I'm low on dough)

I've been thinking about joining after I graduate college for a while now. I've done some research and asked around, and I've found a lot more negative stuff than I was expecting.

And I don't know if you use Reddit, but http://www.reddit.com/r/peacecorps is a decent community of people dealing with the Peace Corps.

I think you are totally wrong, regardless of the fact that you have had friends that have done it. There is a rhyme to their reason.

So, before reading that reddit, I was having serious doubts. 2+ years away from home in a completely different environment is extremely scary; however, all the positives I imagined seem like they're possible if you take the right attitude into it.

I'm torn between whether or not I should spring for the PC or start off with something shorter term, like one of the 1-3 month overseas programs in different organizations.

It sucks cause I feel like I NEED to do this for myself (not PC, necessarily, but this tuype of work in general) and will regret it if I don't. Uggh.
