went to a talk this morning from a well well known scientist talking about the flawed notion of becoming a post-doc following graduate education. The argument essentially became the jobs are not there but because of the absurd publication standards, it's about quantity over quality. He advocated mandatory pay raises for post-docs (and grad students), thus forcing PIs to turn down subpar applicants. If this happens across the board, you start to see better quality publications which are not rooted in sheer mass. Good idea but will never happen.

Officially accepted into FSU's sport management master's program! Met with my adviser today to go over the thesis track. I am ridiculously excited to get started.

Oh yeah I'm aware haha. I'm going to get my core classes out of the way in the first two semesters and focus on thesis I and II and the defense the last two semesters.

What do you do for a thesis in sports management? I'm doing a math thesis and I'm dying haha All I do is pretty much read every book ever and do whatever my advisor says.

Sport management research is essentially social science research. It's a relatively new field and a lot of the analysis was qualitative but they've been shifting towards a quantitative stance over the last decade. I would assume that doing a SPM thesis is essentially the same but adjusted for subject matter haha.

Well damn. Being a semi-new field means all original research which means published papers for you!

I hope so! One of my professors who recommended me for the program said I should try to get 2-3 papers published as a masters student, so we'll see how that goes haha.

Going to start my doctorate program this fall in history at Mizzou.

Thats exciting. I think I would die if I had to take a history class haha.

Finished my last class this week. Only thing left to do is my thesis this summer.

And then that whole figure out what to do with myself thing. Minor technicality.

I'm staying in school forever to avoid that problem, and also to avoid student loans.
