Day of Rising - 01.08.09

Interviewed by
Day of Rising - 01.08.09The following is a mini interview of generic questions that we posed to all bands that wanted to answer:

Day Of Rising - (Roberto)
[Myspace] [ap.net profile] [Purevolume] (free songs)

Daniel Gómez: Bass
Javier Narbón: Guitar / Vocals
Oscar Gómez: Guitar / Vocals
Roberto Bua: Drums / Vocals (Me)

Location: Castellón, Spain

1. How did you get your band name?
I can´t really remember because it was so long ago. I
think we were looking for something that sounded epic but,
at the time, our English was pretty basic. We actually hate
the name, we've been hating it for years but now it's too
late to change it! There are bands I love who have names
which are way worse though!

2. How did this band get started?
I met Javi and Oscar when we were 16, they had been friends
for years. I really loved lots of 90's melodic punk rock
bands (Green Day,The Offspring -back when they were
good-,NOFX, Rancid,Blink 182...) and we started listening to
these bands (together with almost anything that sounded fast
and melodic, no matter how crappy it was) together. None of us
was really into sports (soccer is huge here in Spain, when
we were kids it was almost impossible to find someone who
wasn't into it) so we decided to start a band...the rest is
history! (Actually, everything is on the Bio on our MySpace

3. What bands are you influenced by?
We've been a band for almost nine years and I think that
almost everything we've heard has influenced us in some way.
Here's a little list of the bands that we collectively feel
have influenced us throughout the years. Each one of us has
a really different taste in music but we all love (or have
loved) the following bands: Green Day,Hundred Reasons, Foo
Fighters, The Juliana Theory, Jimmy Eat World, Biffy
Clyro,Silverchair,Blink 182 and countless others.

4. If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who
would it be and why?

Personally, I would love to tour with Green Day because they
are the band that got me into music. "Dookie" started it all
for me. We would also love to tour with Biffy Clyro as it is
pretty much the only band we all bond over.

5. If you were a furry, what animal would you be? Why that

I would probably be a little polar bear because they look
really clean and I totally hate heat.

6. Why should people listen to your band?
First of all I think we are pretty good at what we do (if
you like what's on our MySpace -and even if you don't- wait
until you hear some song from our upcoming album),especially
here in Spain, where there aren't a lot of melodic rock

Also, we are totally committed to this band and we have
worked really hard for it throughout our whole career (check
the Bio on our MySpace page for a little summary). We moved
to the UK and stayed there for 2 years working crappy jobs
and playing as much as we could just to make ourselves a
name in the UK music scene; leaving everything and everyone
behind for the band. We have spent huge amounts of time and
money and we haven't had the best of luck. Right now we
could all be working nice jobs and making money but instead
we are working less hours so we can have time to write our
new album (which will also be our first) just because we
think it could really be something truly special.

7. If you were chosen to be in Guitar Hero/Rock Band, what
song would you want in the game? How hard do you think it
would be to five-star on expert?

One of our new songs called "You Don't Really Mean It". I'm
a drummer but I guess it would be quite easy to play! You
probably won't believe it but I have never played Guitar

8. If you won a Grammy, who would you thank?
Apart from the people that have been supporting us from the
beginning, probably my band mates. It is great to share this
adventure with them. We've been through a billion things
together and I can't think of anyone else I'd like to be in
a band with.

9. If you could change something about the music industry,
what would it be?

That's a tough one! I could go on forever but to be brief I
would make 360º deals illegal. Labels basically go "Hey,
we're to lazy to come up with new ways of marketing and
selling our bands' music so let's just rip young and naive
bands off by making money out of ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING they

10. Memorable tour experience?
Touring with Further Seems Forever on their last ever
European tour or , more recently, supporting Fall Out Boy at
their first ever show in Spain were both great moments and
milestones in our career.

11. What does AP.net mean to you?
It's the greatest source of music news. I don't participate
in the forums a lot (basically because I don't have a lot of
free time) but I check the news several times a day. I also
enjoy reading the interviews on the site and the fact that
it's one of the few "big" music sites that pays attention to
small bands.

12. What is your favorite song to play?
Any of our new songs, most of them are still untitled but
the one I mentioned before ("You Don't Really Mean It") is
probably my favorite one right now. I say "right now"
because we're still halfway through writing the album.

13. What is your vacation spot of choice?
I don't really go on vacation because I'm always broke but
in 2003 I went to NYC with my girlfriend and I think it is
the best city I have ever visited. I hope to be able to go
back as soon as possible or even better, to play there with
my band.

14. What music reminds you of your childhood?
I've been living in Spain for 16 years now but I grew up in
Italy so any popular Italian music from when I was I kid
(mid eighties to early nineties) reminds me of my childhood.
Also, a great song that everyone should hear: The theme song
to an old Canadian TV show called "My Secret Identity" with
Jerry O'Connel. It is probably the greatest song ever

15. If you could have any super power, what would it be?

Peter Petrelli's (from Heroes) superpower, which is to
absorb everyone else's superpowers!

16. Do you feel that your band has "made it"?
No way. We have been a band for a very long time but because
of lots of circumstances we have only recorded two EP's and
a couple of songs. Some people consider we have kind of
"made it" just because we have shared stages with some huge
bands (Linkin Park, Fall Out Boy, Lostprophets, Further
Seems Forever, etc.), we have been on MTV and we sometimes
end up in the pages of some big rock magazines here in Spain
but our ambition goes way beyond all of that. I'm not saying
we want to be the biggest band in the world or any bullshit
like that but I would like to get to a point where we can
make a decent living out of what we love to do.

17. What is something that most fans don't know about you?
I don't really know...the rest of the guys in the band are
Spanish and most of our "fans" (I hate to use that word)
probably don't know that I'm actually Italian.

18. What's your favorite holiday?
Probably Christmas. This year wasn't too good though!

19. What do you like to do in your spare time?
I spend most of my spare time hanging out with my
girlfriend, going to the cinema and partying with my
friends. Just like everyone. I know it sounds boring.

20. What kind of hidden talents do you have?
I cook pretty well, at least that is what I like to think!
