The Bigger Lights - Fiction Fever
Release Date: October 7, 2008
Record Label: Doghouse Records
Have you ever been in that mood? You know -- the mood where you want to listen to something extremely poppy and rearing with youthful energy? Lately, I've been having a hard time trying to find a cure for this, and even though I thought I'd found the cure with The Bigger Lights' Fiction Fever for awhile, I'm afraid I still haven't.
While The Bigger Lights' latest EP is full of youthful exhuberance, and the band handles what they do well, they don't do enough to set themselves apart from the other bands in this genre. The Bigger Lights are a band chock full of potential, but it seems as if it's not utilized. Every song seems to sound the same, and the EP, unfortunately, just became a tad boring to me. The instrumentation is nothing special, although it appears as if they do what they do well. While their songs have plenty of hooks and the catchy choruses that everyone loves, it just seems like I've heard it all before. Their vocalist isn't exactly extraordinary, but has an above average singing voice that fits the tunes quite well.
I was disappointed when I first picked up Fiction Fever because I was hoping it was going to be my new favorite pop band, but it just seemed like another brick in the wall. Although it seems that I'm bashing this EP, is a good listen for awhile, and hopefully The Bigger Lights will step it up on their full length, utilize their potential, and release something that has a bit more lasting power
sorry.
this, the impending doom, and sleeping giant ones were written quickly because i had to post them on theinterlude.com
so i didn't do as well as i thought i could..i had like two days to listen to the album and write the review.
I was just going with the whole nine song album thing.

Completely disagree here. I love this band, and I always have this EP on.
I'll say that their one of the best pop/pop-punk bands out there right now. They put on an awesome show, and all are really great guys. Go pick up the EP for yourself, it's definitely really good.
I actually bought this ep after I saw them live, they were a lot better than I expected. The E.P. is kind of disposable but I revert back to it every now and then when i'm in the mood for some pop punk.
