Never posted in here but I thought I would fill you guys in on the fact that the Jirachi event is going to be a Gamestop exclusive and it will start late February. The 28th I think, actually. Source is th guy who works at the Gamestop I went to today to buy a DS. Picked up Platinum as well and a full preorder on SoulSilver... hoping the Generation 4 games are good lol.

EDIT: And if this is old news, I apologize. I know Serebii has no idea when the event is so I figured noone else did either.

First I've heard about it. Thanks.

We should post something here when this is on.

No problem. And supposedly if you trade it to HG/SS it unlocks an area in the Pokewalker.

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pokéwalker

It's an awesome little device that comes bundled with HeartGold/SoulSilver. It's a pedometer based gadget that wirelessly syncs to the game cartridge itself. Basically, first thing you do is transfer a Pokemon from your HG/SS game to the device. Then, you put it on your belt and go about your day. As you walk, you gather 'watts'. Those watts can then be used to access minature areas, each containing four patches of grass, which contain wild Pokemon like in the regular games. The more watts you collect, te better areas you unlock, and the more costly areas have rarer pokemon. You use the Pokemon you stored in the device to battle the wild Pokemon(battles are much more simplified; due to obvious graphical limitations, the mini sprite you see in the 'party menu' represent the Pokemon. Each pokemon has 4 HP, and you have the option to 'Attack', 'Dodge', or 'Catch'. The Pokemon caught on the Pokewalker can then be transferred to the HG/SS games themselves.

Some of the Pokemon on the Pokewalker are going to be otherwise unavailable in HG/SS, so it seems. I think it's going to be awesome.

Wow, that's pretty awesome. If you run, do you run the risk of breaking it?

I'm not sure but I would doubt it. I think this is Nintendos way of getting fat kids off their couch and make them run for their Pokemon haha.

Nice deal. I'll have to get that eventually.

It's 10 bucks more on top of the game, not sold seperately. Cool device though. Technically, and this is purely theoretical, you could attach it to a rumble pack or some other vibrating household object and they'd level up to 100 fast. I plan on trying to hook mine on my stereo speakers or something like that.

So wait... is it or is it not included with the game? Because I put down 42 something dollars altogether for my preorder so it better be included lol. And from what I understand the Pokewalker doesn't actually level up your Pokemon at all unless I'm mistaken.

Pretty sure you're
and it's included. Why do you think you had to sepend 40 bucks? It's 45$ total.

Had no idea about that, couldn't find anything about it on Bulbapedia but maybe I'm mistaken.

And I'm not sure about the $45... I put a full deposit down on SS and it came out to $42.79 altogether. And the guy said I can just grab it and go on release day. So the full price must be $40.

I still find it incredible that Nintendo has made the Pokemon games so hardcore, yet still unbelievably accessible.

I totally agree. It's easy enough to 'beat' the game that kids can do it, but manipulating breeding and battling can be so in depth for those who want it to be.

By the way, does anyone have a link to how to manipulate the shiny encounter rate in Platinum? I've seen various tidbits but never a full article and I'm really interested in how it works.

I've played all the way up through SoulSilver extensively but lost/had my DS stolen last summerish, so I played most of the Japanese Black ROM with the English patch. And as much I loved it, I stopped before the Elite 4 because I was like "why beat it if I can't use the GTS or battle online and have any fun after". However, my girlfriend recently told me should had a DS Lite she never used and would be willing to give me to continue my addiction, which shocked me.

tl;dr version: I'm excited to get this in a week or two.

If anyone has a link to a ROM for Pokemon Conquest... I'd be very happy. Comes out on Monday, but it seems some people have it.
