The following is a mini interview of generic questions that we posed to all bands that wanted to answer:
Terra Terra Terra - (Matthew Hagelberger)
1. How did you get your band name?
Terra Terra Terra in the Gaelic meant "Created from the Earth, but
imperfect" And it has to do with being made by God's hands, and at
the same time of the earth. So we are caught in the middle.
2. How did this band get started?
We are from 2 bands in Lakeland who had played in the same area and
shows together for quite some time. And when the opportunity to get
serious and sign with a label came about, we combined into Terra Terra
3. What bands are you influenced by?
Brand New, Lovedrug, Incubus, Manchester Orchestra, The Working Title,
Pilot Speed, Taking Back Sunday
4. If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would it be and why?
Present - Manchester Orchestra/Brand New/Incubus These are all
amazing and brilliant bands who are able to not only make smart and
intelligent music that is catchy as all get out, but they can all put
on one hell of a show live as well. Which is basically what we are
all about doing.
Past - Journey because who in this world of ours doesn't enjoy a
little bit of Journey? Perhaps Meatloaf so we could sing backup vocals
on "I would do anything for love" every night of tour.
5. If you were a furry, what animal would you be? Why that animal?
Ring-Tailed Lemur. Straight up the coolest monkey out there.......
6. Why should people listen to your band?
We aren't Brokencyde/Millionaires so we are definitely worth a listen.
lol. On a serious note, I think all of the fans so far have
basically let us know that our music is really catchy and fun to sing
along with, but at the same time the musicians that we are friends
with and bands we have toured and played with have told us that it was
just great/smart music and a great live show. So straight from the
horse's mouth, that's why you should listen.
7. If you were chosen to be in Guitar Hero/Rock Band, what song would
you want in the game? How hard do you think it would be to five-star
"This Is My Associate Cornelius" It's my favorite song on the album,
and I want the world to hear it. It would probably be pretty middle
of the road as far as difficulty. I'm not Joe Satriani or anything,
so it's able to be handled. lol
8. If you won a Grammy, who would you thank?
My parents for amazing support of everything I have done in music,
including dropping out of college for this band. Which is not an easy
thing for a parent to support.
9. If you could change something about the music industry, what would it be?
As stupid as it sounds, I would really want to work on the whole
pirating issue. Mainly because, being on the music side of the
industry now, thousands of people can have your album, and love your
music, but if they all stole it, then you aren't going to get any
support from your label because you aren't selling the albums they
want you to. It's even made me step up my game and stop torrenting
every little album and song that I want.
But I mean, on the other side, if kids are gonna get the album and
then come out to shows and bring friends and hang out, then I can't
argue. Next question.........
10. Memorable tour experience?
Well it was actually while we were on our way up to record the singles
for this album with Jesse Cannon. We get about 5 miles from our label
guy's house in New Jersey, and after driving a good 20 hours with no
trouble, got pulled over by the wonderful police of New Jersey because
Ish was texting while driving and the van was swerving. After running
the tags, they realized (and so did we) that the plates were no good
and it looked like we had stolen our van. So we had to get all of our
stuff out of the van and stand on the side of the road while they
towed and impounded the van. Definitely a long night before the first
day of recording.......
11. What does AP.net mean to you?
I am on AP.net multiple times everyday and it is literally my musical
resource to top all and I am a bit obsessed. I love that a site like
this keeps me in the loop and knowing everything that is going on in
the music world. And now that I have seen some Terra Terra Terra
news on here as well, it's like a dream coming true before my eyes.
12. What is your favorite song to play?
"Coast Is Clear" is probably my favorite live song. We pretty much
take it up about 20 notches from what it sounds like on the album and
it's definitely the high-point of the set for all of us.
13. What is your vacation spot of choice?
Any beach with waves to ride would be my vacation spot of choice. But
at the same time, I love camping. So put me in the mountains of
Oregon and you will have my smiling as well.
14. What music reminds you of your childhood?
So much great classic rock that my dad played all the time. Tom
Petty, Queen, Led Zepplin. But also, that wonderful 90's alt\rock
that we all grew up on.
15. If you could have any super power, what would it be? Why?
I would have to say telekinesis would be really awesome. I mean,
moving things with your mind! Sweet! But then, I would probably get
16.Do you feel that your band has "made it"?
Not at all. If you ever think that your band has "made it", then you
are going to be resting on your heels and not working nearly as hard
as you need to. It's a constant process of growing musically, growing
as a band, and reaching out to people. If we ever get the mentality
that we have made it, then we probably need to call it a day.
17.What is something that most fans don't know about you?
I find nudity to be completely relaxing and comforting. And my
roommates don't agree.....
18.What's your favorite holiday?
19.What do you like to do in your spare time?
I am an avid reader, and I also love movies of all types and time
periods. But if I get the chance to hit the beach and surf, then I
will most certainly be doing that.
20.What kind of hidden talents do you have?
I have a double-jointed thumb and that's about it. Our synth player
however has the talent of being ridiculously pessimistic in all
situations, even while on a stage in front of thousands of people.
But I am overly optimistic about everything, so we kind of balance
each other out.
