Did you guys see this on Pitchfork? He called the project a joke. I love me some Illinois and Michigan and was looking forward to him hitting some states that I've lived in. Pipe dreams now.

i wouldn't call michigan or, especially, illinois mediocre in any sense. that being said, i knew this was never going to happen.

Both are wonderful albums; my concern would be his attempting to make something that great 48 more times.

I never thought he would complete it either but what I liked about those albums was that he took themes that were synonymous with those states and came up with some killer tunes. I agree with DaGaR, both Michigan and Illinois are far from mediocre, they're both great.

yeah, i don't understand that people actually thought he was going to do this.

i think he should just oversee like 10 other artists doing them. like a consultant. that would be cool.

then release an America box set of all the albums.

The other part of that article mentioned that he planned to branch out more musically and step away from the narrative songwriting he'd been doing. So I'm interested to see where that's going.
