I don't think that John Stewart is smug, I think he has seen so much of the bullshit from politicians, corporations, lobbyists, and news networks that he is left with two options; viewing the world honestly, yet with a hint of 'I know more than you' smugness, because, due to how much the guy has seen over the past decade or so, he really does know a loooooooot, or, the second option, he goes batshit insane. Maybe lands a show on FoxNEWS.
