Weekly Nostalgia: Treble Charger

Posted by - 11:37 AM on 12/16/09
They started out as an indie rock band in the 90ís, but thatís not what Treble Charger is widely known for. They made their mark on the mainstream a little later by playing super catchy tunes with a pop-punk edge to them. If you were living in Canada near the start of this decade, itís very unlikely you donít know who they are. Their singles were all over the radio, their music videos were on constant rotation at MuchMusic and they were even nominated at the Junos. For me, this band was certainly one of my gateways into pop-punk. I loved ďAmerican PsychoĒ when it came out and this band was also one of my first shows. I saw them play in 2003 with Sum 41, who was actually managed by Treble Chargerís front man Greig Nori at the time. But as always, everything must come to an end. The band broke up in 2006 and the last record they put out, Detox, was released in 2002. If youíve been a fan or simply recall them, feel free to share your memories in the replies.

I really didn't like them. They became some sort of Sum 41 clones when they broke into the mainstream; I think the guitar player even had ''41'' tattooed on his arm.

I saw them live in 2004 and they were just trying too hard to look silly.

The 41 was because he manages Sum 41.

To each their own! As for that tattoo though, Greig Nori (Treble Charger's frontman) is the one who pretty much discovered Sum 41 so he has a bit of a right to get it. He created Bunk Rock in 1999 to manage Sum 41 right from the start. He got that tattoo in the parlour with Deryck, Steve, Dave and Cone according to a Sum 41 Egos and Icons episode on MuchMusic. They pretty much considered him a fifth member but then something went sour. I'm guessing it was when Dave left (but I don't really know) because Dave has a new band called The Organ Thieves and he is having Greig produce the record for them.

Treble Charger's best work was behind them well before this decade even began.
