The Rocket Summer - You Gotta Believe EP
Release Date: October 26, 2009
Record Label: Island Records
Bryce Avery is a talented guy. He plays all the instruments in his albums and creates fun, catchy, poppy rock songs for the world to enjoy. Bryce put out his first record when he was only sixteen, and his albums have only gotten better with age. The You Gotta Believe EP features a bonus track and three tracks from Of Men and Angels, the full length album which is set to release February 23, 2010. These four songs give a great taste of what is to come on the upcoming full length.
The EP starts out with a bang. "You Gotta Believe" is the opening track and packs a punch only Bryce could bring. The high paced verses and screaming chorus make this the perfect opener. "You Gotta believe" is tight and well crafted. It shows that The Rocket Summer is back and ready to gift the world with more great music. Next up is "Hills and Valleys". Start out with melodic piano, then add a few hand claps and you have the ideal pop rock song. Bryce's vocal harmonies shine on this song and shows his growth as a vocalist. Next is "Light". Bryce's vocal range shines on this track. He sure can get up there. Bryce opens his heart up to the listeners in this song. He sings, "Save me cause I need it. And I can't help but feel desperate". "Light" is my least favorite from the EP. It's typical TRS without the wow factor. Last but not least, is the bonus track, "The Fight". This has to be my favorite of the four. If you get this EP for anything, get it for this song. This song is trademark TRS: catchy chorus, piano heavy, and the bridge is the best part of it all and a great end to a great EP.
This is his fourth EP and first taste of new music since 2007. Bryce shows us a little of what to expect on February 23, and I can't wait. Of Men and Angels will be his fourth full length album and probably his most anticipated. You Gotta Believe EP is a fun, solid listen, and shows us what The Rocket Summer is capable of.
