Toby Foster / Evan Gornik - Split
Record Label: Keep It Together Records
Release Date: June 12, 2009
As soon as the needle touched the wax on Toby Foster's side of the split, I knew I was going to enjoy the record. The songs, on both sides, are simple, straightforward, and immensely enjoyable folk which a splash of punk. The lyrics aren't complex metaphors, but are, for the most part, pretty literal and equally relatable.

Neither artists' vocals are incredible, but regardless, they put every ounce of emotion they have into each sincere word. Musically, the songs play around with instrumentation, though they never really deviate from what they set out to do in the first place. Both artists sound somewhat similar, but there is enough variation so they don't sound redundant.

The split is a very laid back, yet still engaging record that uses simplicity and sincerity to its advantage. If you enjoy folk, pop, or folk punk, definitely check this release out.
