Record Label: Uh Oh! Explosion/Self-Released
Release Date: June 18th, 2010
If Andrew W.K. paired up with 3OH!3, maybe MC Lars, and some dance-happy beats, Uh Oh! Explosion may just be what you’d get at the end of that. I don’t really know how else to begin describing this band. They’re kind of all over the place musically. Sometimes this can be a good thing and sometimes not so much. UhOh! Explosion likes to mix it up with a little bit of everything, from the white-boy rap of “Gangster Shit” to the pop-punk friendly “Money In The Bank”.

“We’re tight, we’re white, and we doin’ that gansta shit.” This obviously isn’t meant to be taken seriously, so don’t even try. The lyrics of the songs are rather ridiculous in nature, and UhOh! Explosion is closing in on the neon-clad, glassless black frames, hipster trend that has become prevalent in today’s younger musical generation.

Never Gonna Stop includes a re-recorded version of “Pornstar”, formerly titled “The Original Mack” on their prior release For The Win!. Capitalizing off of a crowd-favorite, Uh Oh! Explosion has revamped this song for the better, filling instrumental gaps with vocal clips of two girls discussing whether or not they’d do the band (“Oh my god, Uh Oh! Explosion.” “I know, they’re such douchebags.”) “I do it all night!” lead-vocalist Jonathon Bolin shouts through the slightly Andrew W.K.-esque choruses. “You know I do it like a-- You know I do it like a pornstar.” With lyrics like this, you should probably never stop to analyze a single thing the band is singing. Honestly, it really isn’t going to get you anywhere. Just stop to enjoy it for the ridiculous, sometimes vulgar, dance-rock that it is.

“Money In The Bank” is musically the strongest track on the EP, with a number of sing-a-long tricks implemented. From “hey-ho”’s to “woo-ooh”’s, it’s the most crowd-friendly track you’ll find in the otherwise rap-rock driven five-track album. Bolin creatively weaves the titles of each of their releases (For The Win!, In Your Face, Never Gonna Stop, Pop-Fascist) into this track’s last vocal breakdown: “Shove it in your face, fascist of the Pop. Goin’ for the win now, Never gonna stop.”

Never Gonna Stop is a collection of songs absurd in nature, yet high on energy. Uh Oh! Explosion just wants to throw a party with you, from club-friendly “Get Up (Get Down)” to the rap-rock verses of “Dis Is How We Roll”. So if you’re into the whole 3OH!3 sort of thing, pick up this EP when it releases and have yourself some fun.

this is the first time that i think the review has made the album seem worse than the ratings do.

for example, if we should ignore the lyrics, why the hell are the lyrics rated 8/10?

oh well.

ok yes it says dont listen to the lyrics and then rates it 8/10 but its fun music to listen to, it shouldnt matter what the lyrics say all that matters is that you give them a fair chance. for not being signed they do an amazing job, and that's because they love it. give them a chance, these guys are friends and are amazing musically and when you just hang out with them. <3
