A Hero A Fake - Let Oceans Lie
Record Label: Victory Records
Release Date: January 19, 2010
Who?
A Hero A Fake formed in 2004 and has made a buzz in the North Carolina music scene. Victory Records signed the band in 2008 and released their debut Volatile later that year with mixed reviews.
What's it like?
A Hero A Fake's latest release Let Oceans Lie, produced by Jamie King(Between The Buried and Me,He Is Legend), is a great improvement over Volatile. "Sleep State" fires the album off with a bouncy riff. "Images," the standout track on the album, starts off an acoustic number before shifting into full band mode. "A Year In Passing" has smooth musical progression and great guitar parts. The only thing that is somewhat of a problem is the whole "scream the verse, sing the chorus" routine, which has become very dull. The band takes much of their musical style from label mates Between The Buried and Me and that's not necessarily a bad thing. These guys are capable of playing very tight progressive metal. Still, it will be interesting to see the direction they choose to take on their next release.
This band has a great drummer, great guitar player and so-so vocalist. Overall, I prefer "Volatile" over this album. Good review. Could've been a little longer with some more detail but it was good as is.
i think it's an improvement from their debut. the talent is still obviously present, they just need something more. maybe that's time, but i know they'll release something super killer soon, hopefully they just keep getting tighter
