saw about 3 songs at his show in nyc thanks to an ap'er and was really wonderful. i wish i had gotten into his music sooner.

I loved his last record (that was kind of my gateway to Josh) and then I picked up his earlier stuff and the new record is fantastic as well.

YEAH Josh Ritter contest! Anyone coming out to these shows come say hi to me. I sell merch and do photography for Josh. Feel free to recommend me awesome food and record stores in your cities. Good luck to people participating in the contest. Everyone else: go buy tickets, Josh puts on a show that is not to be missed.

What record should I start with Tony?

For anyone in the NYC area: Josh is also playing a free show on Governor's Island on August 8th. Sucks that it's a Sunday night, but it'll be well worth it. Dude puts on a fantastic show. Saw him all three times he played here in May.

Start kind of in the middle, I'd say. The Animal Years is probably the most highly-acclaimed of his records, so I'd start there. Epic songs--one of them (Thin Blue Flame) is 9:30+ and it's one of the few songs that long that can keep my attention throughout.

The Historical Conquests of Josh Ritter was my gateway album. It's a lot fuller of a sound than The Animal Years, less stripped down. The new one (So Runs the World Away) is about midway between the two albums in terms of tempo and style.

There were 3 albums before The Animal Years that I recommend checking out as well.
