Its Teeth – Piano Hands EP
Record Label: None
Release Date: August 24, 2010
Who?
Its Teeth is the instrumental side project of Drop Dead, Gorgeous’ guitarist Jacob Belcher.
How is it?
Piano Hands was written and recorded in Belcher’s small apartment as well as various hotels and small venues throughout tours. Despite this, the production is flawless. This EP is unlike anything one would expect from a member of heavy act Drop Dead, Gorgeous, as it is unlike any material the band has ever composed. In this way, Belcher’s creativity and musical talents drive the four-track fully instrumental EP. Opener “FelineCanine” features heavy synth backed by distorted guitars. The opening track flows seamlessly into the following title track “Piano Hands,” a track driven by guitar, conveying Belcher’s superb guitar skills.
Alike to “Piano Hands,” “CheerfulSaddness” also wields haunting guitars, albeit slower than the previous tracks as it leads perfectly into closer “Passive Progression.” At first, Belcher did not have “Passive Progression” on the EP; however, he made the right decision upon including it. The track changes the mood of Piano Hands wonderfully, utilizing beautiful piano play throughout start to finish. “Passive” ends the EP on a beautifully perfect note of grace.
