One of my favorite Mae's songs to play, "Skyline Drive" was
originally a Sky's The Limit song and one of the last songs I wrote
during the "STL era.".

Back in 2001 I was a freshman in college driving an average of 100
miles a day. Working at a restaurant and going to school in Norfolk,
VA and living in North Carolina, I used my drives to and from home to
gather my thoughts and eventually turn those thoughts into lyrics for
the Sky's The Limit record and Mae's Destination: Beautiful. There are
plenty of references to driving in the songs I was writing 10 years
ago because I was doing so much of it on a daily basis. I was
definitely a commuter student!

"Skyline Drive" analyzes the mistakes made in a relationship as there
is attempt to repair it in its' fragile state. When people remind you
of the mistakes you've made it's easy to feel like you've already lost
and that there is not enough you can do to prove your love and your
good intentions. When I found myself in that place all I could do was
find solace in my night drives back to North Carolina.

Oh man, I thought my commute to ODU from Virginia Beach was bad! Glad he was able to find some good in those long drives!

Very good song, I prefer whichever version I have tho, I guess the one from Mae themselves.

I remember I dated a girl awhile back and we took a trip to Skyline Drive one day and I insisted that we play this song on the way.

Such a great song. Definitely one of Mae's best in my opinion and it's fun to read how it came about. Something about this rougher version really appeals to me, oddly enough

Favorite song ever... still. It got me through some hard times. I have even told friends I'd want it played at my funeral... not sure what that means but I love it. It's a song for late at night, rainy drives, for when you feel happy, sad, or indifferent.

it appears that Dave will now be playing with Sky's the Limit again. check it out on facebook, through STL, as well as thru Dave's personal page. :) so there is still hope for beautiful music inspired by Dave. Jacob is also playing with another band, though I'm not sure what the band's name is, I'm trying to find it now..
