Cold Snap - 12.21.10

Interviewed by
Cold Snap - 12.21.10The following is a mini interview of generic questions that we posed to all bands that wanted to answer:

Cold Snap

1. How did you get your band name?
We did some digging in a dictionary back when we were in high school, looking for words that were simple and cool. We took COLD SNAP out of a 200-word choice, and later found out that it was an actual term for a rapid climate change, a quick drop of temperature. That made it even more interesting, because we like to think of ourselves as a “breath of fresh air” on the scene!

2. How did this band get started?
Actually, very spontaneous and not too serious... We met in high school, started to hang out and said one day: “Hey, let's start a band!”. We decided who plays what using a children's rhyme [hahaha]. However, pretty soon we found out that we liked it, that we were actually good at it, it felt good, and we went on rehearsing, and first performances followed shortly.

3. What bands are you influenced by?

The biggest influence was from bands like Korn, Slipknot, Pantera, Tool, Machine Head, Sepultura, Rage Against The Machine, Soulfly, and the like.

4. If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

Definitely the original Korn line-up. Those guys have always been and always will be our biggest music role models. They changed metal music's direction, made it richer, made it unique. That's something Cold Snap also strives to, naturally in our own unique way.

5. If you were a furry, what animal would you be? Why that animal?

A beaver. Because we're working full steam all the time.

6. Why should people listen to your band?

We believe our music can give people great pleasure. In a unique “Cold Snap” kind of way, it can take them away from all of the negatives in their lives and make them happy at least for a few moments.

7. If you were chosen to be in Guitar Hero/Rock Band, what song would you want in the game?
How hard do you think it would be to five-star on expert?

This is a really hard question... :) It would probably be the song “Snap.” But we don't play Guitar Hero – we're not a rich country, not everyone has a Play Station here, so we have to play for real, not virtually :)

8. If you won a Grammy, who would you thank?

First and foremost, our families, who have been with us for all our lives, then our friends and fans, and we definitely wouldn't forget our producer Tue Madsen, who, as we were doing “Perfection”, showed us what our music CAN and SHOULD sound like.

9. If you could change something about the music industry, what would it be?

We'd change two things: first, some bands – even our role models – who made it big with their first records, changed their styles in the last couple of years, lost a great deal of fans, their music lost it's soul and all the intricacies they were unique and special for, and most of all, they now sound like a number of other bands. Second thing we would like to change is to do away with reviews and critics, allowing people to listen to our record or come to a show with no prejudice. But we are aware that this is far from possible...

10. Memorable tour experience?
We haven't been on a real TOUR so far, but we're just booking a tour for March 2011. It's going to be 9 countries, and we're very excited – it's going to be our first, and we're sure that'll make it very special and very memorable.

11. What does AP.net mean to you?

It means a lot to us, because this is our first interview in the States, and we hope people will show interest in Cold Snap and in our music.

12. What is your favorite song to play?

Genocide, Snap, You failed, Bongo Bong, Insurrection, Mea culpa, Music evolution, and many more…

13. What is your vacation spot of choice?

A very small village on the Adriatic coast called Baric Draga :)

14. What music reminds you of your childhood?

Korn, AC/DC, Nirvana, Pantera, R.A.T.M., Tool, Metallica

15. If you could have any super power, what would it be? Why?
It would be great if we could stop time, turn it back, think 5 times before we actually do something. We could make things right or change them back, and we probably wouldn't have any problems.

16. Do you feel that your band has "made it"?

Our aim is to share our music with everyone on this planet. That being said, we'll be able to say we've “made it” when every person in the world will know at least one Cold Snap tune. Until then, we'll continue to work as hard as we can, because you can't skip steps in the music business, the road to “get there” is long and hard. But that's how it should be! It would be stupid if everything in life was simple and easy.

17. What is something that most fans don't know about you?

It's actually a very big thing, and no one outside probably knows this: our guitar player, Nino, has NO KIDNEYS!!! He spends 5 hours doing dialysis every other day, for seven years now. For us, he's the bravest, strongest person we know.

18. What's your favorite holiday?

Seaside, sunshine, guys from the band and our girls, tons of beer and great music!

19. What do you like to do in your spare time?

We turn our free time into music. And that's the thing we enjoy doing the most!

20. What kind of hidden talents do you have?

Jan [vocals] is an actor, he writes scripts for plays and movies, Leo [guitars] is an artist, Nino [guitars] is a web designer, Zoki [bass] is an electronics engineer, and Denis [drums] is a... well, he's a physical worker :)
