Pop-punk has really hit a high note as of late. Acts such as Four Year Strong, Set Your Goals, Man Overboard, and Transit have proven that hardcore-influenced pop-punk music can be performed in grand fashion. Now, it looks like Kids Icarus, who recently signed to Creator-Destructor Records, are here to make their name in the genre, as well.

“It’s On Me” begins the self-titled EP with Brian Bellitto’s vocals taking control. Backed by backbreaking drumming (courtesy of Dave Woltmann) and shredding guitars (courtesy of Adam Sahlin and Marco Corsino), his style will suit fans of FYS and the like wonderfully. The singing of “I want to be forgotten / I want to fade away” nearly forces singing along. “Down and Out” is set at full speed, turning the dial to 10; as a result, the track is sure to please fans of raucous pop-punk tunes.

“Monster” simply sounds massive, as the guitars and drums open the track before Bellitto steals the show on the top executed tracks on Kids Icarus. The track proves how much potential these guys have. The closing “Firework” proves to be a paradox, beginning with the heaviest guitars heard on the EP but then quickly switching to the vocal pinnacle of the EP. Kids Icarus couldn’t have possibly have ended the EP on a higher note than “Firework.” True to its name, it’s explosively addictive and heavy hitting.

Short and sweet, fast and to the point, this EP will surely put Kids Icarus on the maps of many pop-punk fans. For such a new band, Kids Icarus seem to know exactly what they’re doing. With their new record deal, it’s shaping up to be a huge year for these Connecticut rookies.

Haha, beat me to the review (I've been listening to it nonstop which is not a bad thing at all). Awesome for sure, though. I love these guys a lot.

I definitely heard A Wilhelm Scream influence in their songs, as well.
