Vibes - Vibes EP

Long Island based quartet who recently released their debut EP, but sound more like a veteran act with a few releases under their belt.
How Is It?
The Vibes EP is a superb debut, and considering the band did everything themselves, I was left thoroughly impressed after the last note ended. While most bands use a debut EP to get material out and try to find their style (which let’s be honest, often leaves a lot to be desired), Vibes seem to have not only found a style, they are already starting to refine it. The smooth, free flowing piano-laden “Stay Love” is a nice introductory track and immediately lets the listener know this is not your average “garage band”, but rather a promising young band just beginning to tap into its potential. “Never Warmth” is an introspective piano driven ballad that highlights beautiful melodies (vocal and instrumental) and has lyrics that provide an emotional punch equal to the one delivered by the music. However, the Vibes EP is not just an EP of slow piano ballads, “Ours” finds the band setting aside the piano and venturing into full-blown rock territory. In my opinion, the band made a great choice closing the album with one of their more upbeat songs; too many bands with a similar style end their albums in a yawn-inducing fashion. This band not only writes very good songs for a new band, but they have a tireless work ethic, spending 15 hours a day in the studio in order to perfect their songs and their sound. All the band wants is for people to listen to their music, live it, and love it as they do, which is why they are giving their music away free. Vibes is a great unsigned talent, and even if the album was not free, they are worthy of your attention.
