How Is It?
Valiant’s self-titled EP debut is four tracks and clocks in just a shade over fourteen minutes in length. Valiant’s sound has the right amount of melodies and catchy hooks that one would expect from a band opening for bands like October Fall and The Audition, but tends to lean more heavily toward their rock influences. While Valiant has the ingredients on their EP to create competently crafted pop-rock songs, the production seems to hinder the effectiveness of the melodies and makes the tracks come across as underwhelming. Valiant doesn't offer an exciting new take on the pop-rock genre and sounds like numerous other local bands striving to achieve pop-rock perfection giving Valiant an A for effort but a significantly lower grade for execution. Valiant have stated that they are taking a voyage into a new genre for their next effort, so here is to hoping this shift in style also brings a change in production.
