Show Review: Deftones and Chaos in Tejas (Saturday)

Posted by: Adam Pfleider (06/06/11)
I've written some words on two shows I attended on Saturday. You can read my thoughts here. After reading, I want to discuss this question of longevity: When did punk rock become safe? Is it still safe? Do you think less chances are taken to expand what the idea of punk could or should be, or do you think there continues to be an expansion of the undefinable term? What bands do you feel will be remembered for their music and not their actions and/or vice versa ten years from now? 20? Who will your kids look back and see as influential?

If we're discussing it here, I first want to know what is meant by "safe." Physically safe, or safe as in, "You might not make money of off this?" I got vibes of both from the blog.

In my opinion I honestly think it depends on the band or where it's taking place.sure places like the bamboozle and warped tour and such are be safe for the most part.I've also seen shows at smaller venues where I've also feared for my safety.punk music is about pushing the envelope and it's getting harder and harder to do anymore.as far as bands that will be influential im going to throw these bands out there...brand new(obvious choice),against me!,new found glory, and thursday there's probably a whole hell of alot more I could add to this but im drawing a blank at the moment

I think he meant bands that conform and don't take risks to progress their sound.
