drew, whyd you have to close the previous MLB thread?
threads that get too big slow down forum performance, I think.

hmmm ha, i did not notice that....but i think Weaver as of now is an automatic lock (for now) and i think Trumbo has been putting up fantastic power numbers for a rookie. And i think the team is achieving a lot more than expected.
trumbo's OBP is barely over .300 and he plays a typical power production - for his position he has not been that impressive. he is well below hellickson and pineda for me.

i think for both pitchers it depends on how these guys finish down the stretch because since mid-june Pineda has been pretty inconsistent. trumbo's obp is not very impressive but it's not as if he's striking out a whole bunch though. a rookie to hit 35 homers 35 doubles is pretty fantastic. If pineda ends up with something like a 3.80 ERA, it's solid, but nothing over the top fantastic. And hellickson, yes, he's definitely the front runner for now when it comes to pitching. If he can keep the ERA under 3.50 and end up with something like 15 wins, the voters will definitely go with him.
You've gotta look a little past the baseball card stats. I really don't care what the voters care about, if we are discussing merit than I'd like to consider things like FIP, K rate, etc.

Nolan Ryan never won a Cy Young. That blows my mind.
That's probably because Nolan Ryan wasn't all that great.

I'm getting the feeling that you thrive on making bold and controversial statements, lol.
is it really a controversial opinion?

C'mon. I'm trying to get along with you this time around. You are so full of hate, man. I haven't even done anything wrong.
Yeah, you can see the hate seething from the words:

"Please don't defend him."

This is why so many posters hate you. I find you annoying, but made a fairly innocuous comment and you blow it up to be completely dramatic.

I wasn't trying to be dramatic. I just don't understand why you would lobby Underdawg to not stick up for me regarding last night's game. I didn't do anything controversial. There's never been any rift between me and him, I'd like it to remain that way. That's all. I'm not trying to pick fights with anyone. Anything that happened between us is water under the bridge as far as I'm concerned.
Why do you think everyone finds you so obnoxious? It can't be just coincidence, right?

Bobby Valentine is an asshole. Now I can't watch a non-NESN Sox broadcast without hearing how long that day's Sox SP is taking between pitches, with no mention of the opposing team's pitcher.
That's probably because Felix works at a regular pace while Beckett takes 45 seconds between each pitch.

Another other books for the advanced material that you could recommend?
There's really not that much info in Moneyball anyways. It's a story about Billy Beane. It isn't a place to learn stuff, really. I always recommend Baseball Between the Numbers. Even though the metrics they use are now a little outdated, the concepts in there are fantastic (value of stolen bases, bunts, clutch players, etc.)
