We get this question pretty often =) Here's the dilly: The name is just spelled the way it was taught to one of us during a cognitive development course in college years and years ago (we're old!). We were learning about the brains ability to retain information and transmit thoughts, etc. So naturally, we used that spelling when we started forming the initial ideas for the label and everything. It actually wasn't until much later that we ever even saw the more popular spelling of "Myelin". But rather than change the name to that way of spelling it, we decided to keep it this way since this is the way we were taught about it and were inspired to use it. And it makes it more "ours"... er something =)

And the best part - it makes search engines our best friend =)
