While writing a paper (read: procrastinating), I became curious about what kind of music AP.net users like to listen to while writing or doing any sort of work for school. I searched the education forum and was surprised to see that a previous thread on the subject hadn't been updated in a little over two years. Considering the amount of users still in school, I thought this could be interesting.

I always have to have something playing or else I have trouble focusing. Generally, I like something something with a medium tempo that is lyrically driven (Relient K, Dashboard Confessional, Eve 6 etc.), or the occasional Hip Hop (Kanye, Childish Gambino, Sage Francis pandora station).

So how about it, what helps you to do school work?

Synthpop/Electronic instrumental stuff. Beats that make me feel awesome.
If there are too many words in the music, I get distracted.

No music for me. Work best when it's absolutely quiet.

Hardstyle and really heavy death metal. I feel the intensity of em brings out the intensity of my take on the thesis.

Trip-Hop usually works the best for me. Really makes me concentrated when I do things for school. However when I'm writing poetry and such, I always listen to jazz and contemporary classical. It suits everything so well.

When I wrote a paper, I could listen to pretty much anything, but bands that I know I repeated were the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Brand New, and Northstar. Usually whatever I was playing a lot at the time is what I would write a paper to. However, if I was studying for a test/finals I would usually go classical of some kind. Composers like Mozart, Bach, Vivaldi, and Ludovico Einaudi I know come to mind. For some reason lyrics really distract me when I am trying to take a lot of information in at one time.
