Have you read (I think it was) Riley's blog where he talked about the impending break/hiatus/whatever? He made it seem pretty indefinite.
It's certainly possible that they'll be back with a new album in no more than a few years, but there is no reason to expect it as if it's by any stretch of the imagination guaranteed. Bands always say they aren't really breaking up, and sometimes go on to not play together for years and years afterwards.
Yes, I read that. I just didn't think it was fair to the band to call this an "end to their career" when the first line of their hiatus announcement was that they weren't breaking up. Whether or not they make more music together is up to them.

Fair enough. It may not be the end, but it has a good chance of being the end, at least for a long time if not forever, and I'm pretty sure that's why people (Riley included) are talking about it in terms of at least some finality.
