Air Dubai - Day Escape EP

Release Date: October 25, 2011
Who?
Air Dubai are a rock/hip-hop group from Colorado, who combine fun-time themed lyricism with full band instrumentation.
How is it?
The merging of hip-hop and rock is a very delicate balance, but one that this band handle successfully, sounding more like The Roots and less like Rebirth. Besides following the traditional guitar/bass/drum setup, the band incorporate infectious horns and keys into the mix, such as the ones found on "Soul & Body", an inclusion that compliments the songs well, and provides great support to some already enjoyable instrumentals. In addition to having songs with excellent party vibes, there are several tunes on the EP that follow more serious themes. Although they say during "Summer Solstice" that "It's worth it. For when we roll through the party, and seeing Air Dubai up on the marquee", they reveal some frustration on "Crashing Down" with lines such as "You break through with a song and a purpose, and watch it all die when you scratch to the surface". "Magazines" has a slightly more upbeat feel to it, telling the tale of a fame-chasing female: "She hit LA with her plans to be, somewhere famous off in magazines", stating "Fame is what she wants, but I just can't build it up for her".
In conclusion, one of the best things about this EP is that it carries with it an equal amount of celebration friendly jams and serious tunes. Because for every party, there is the aftermath, and Air Dubai are a fitting soundtrack to both.
