"So here's to being alone/to anyone on their own/if anyone's listening/well think of me when I'm gone/it's not gonna hurt for long/and you can just forget/and I can't live without regret"
"What are you doing to me? I'm so into you/and the hardest part is knowing that I'll never follow thorough/you're slowly killing me/and I wish it wasn't true/'cause I'm so into you"
there's mountains and boatloads of lyrics always swirling around in my head. gonna take some time to narrow it down. but the first that comes to mind is "Springtime" by Leatherface:
"There's a little bit of springtime in the back of my mind
Remembers things perhaps as they should have been
Rather than the lies, rather that the cruelty
There's still so many things left to see
A little drop in the middle of the big sea of high and mighty things
And there's springtime in my mind and I'd rather be alive
As though we'd invented it and we danced
It could have been the longest time and I'll remember it
You don't know what's in store when we laugh"
oh and then there's "Chapter 13: The Hero Appears" by The Lawrence Arms:
"Good friend, how loud do you want life to shout her answer in your ear?"
Morrissey's basically the reason we have most of these bands ... feel like he counts.
Fair enough, but you could probably make that argument about Dylan as well, who you chose to exclude as he wasn't part of the scene though.
Anyway, this isn't the time or place to have this discussion, so I'll actually contribute to this thread.

And I picture this corpse on the M8 hearse and I half run away to sleep
On a rolled up coat against the window with the strobe of the sun and the life I've led
Frightened Rabbit

And though, you swear you've found another
who will surely speed you on your way,
don't let the forest grow over that path you came there by.
But you will, so...
"If I could I would shrink myself and sink through your skin to your blood cells
and remove whatever makes you hurt but I am too weak to be your cure."- Guernica
"You are calm and reposed
Let your beauty unfold
Pale white like the skin
Stretched over your bones
Spring keeps you ever close
You are second hand smoke
You are so fragile and thin
Standing trial for your sins
Holding onto yourself the best you can
You are the smell before the rain
You are the blood in my veins"- The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot
"Do you believe you're missing out
That everything good is happening somewhere else?"- Jesus Christ
"You could never work well with our group
Not with the faults we found
So we've fixed you with cement galoshes
And no one can save you now
Unless you have friends among fish
There’ll still be no air to breathe
You could drink up the entire ocean
We’ll still find someone to be everything we know that you’ll never be"- Luca
"Hey, you beauty supreme.
Yeah, you were right about me.
But can I get myself out from underneath
This guilt that will crush me
and in the choir I saw our sad Messiah.
He was bored and tired of my laments.
Said, "I died for you one time, but never again"- Limousine
"You've set on me but you are not the sun, and you will not listen"- Not The Sun
"Well I stole bricks from the dam almost everyday
Now I'm drowning in the flood I made
Well explain myself to me on the other side
Well I'll want some answers when I die"- At The Bottom

I think Morrissey's been more influential on what I would call the AP.net scene than Dylan -- which was my reasoning for including him, compared to other old-timers.
I can't argue that. I listen to the "Live at Birmingham Academy" version just as much as the CD version. Sounds like Jim is about to cry Chris Carrabba style at a few points and it's just overwhelming.
"I'll keep warm in the mitten state, I've got more brothers across the lake, and the Chicago city water helps me sing. Home is where the hardest goodbyes are; my heart is in everywhere I've been. We won't stay here too long, but we'll be here again. And don't forget, we know the way back home."
Paramore -- Miracle
"I've gone for too long living like I'm not alive, so I'm gonna start over tonight, beginning with you and I. When this memory fades, I'm gonna make sure it's replace with chances taken, hope embraced."
Those are the main two. There are so many more I could post, but it would take forever, and it's such a hard list to narrow down.
"You're the echoes of my everything,
You're the emptiness the whole world sings at night.
You're the laziness of afternoon,
You're the reason why I burst and why I bloom.
You're the leaky sink of sentiment,
You're the failed attempts I never could forget.
You're the metaphors I can't create to comprehend this curse that I call love.."
Completely agree with this, Justin has a really distinct way of songwriting. It's simple and yet vastly imaginative and complex.
