The Dropkick Murphys Respond to Republican Using Their...

Posted by: Jason Tate (05/14/12)
Jeff Fitzgerald, candidate for U.S. Senate and current Speaker of the Assembly of Wisconsin, used the Dropkick Murphys/Woody Guthrie anthem "Shipping Up To Boston" as his intro at the state’s Republican Party Convention. The band was less than pleased.
From the BandThe stupidity and irony of this is laughable. A Wisconsin Republican U.S. Senate candidate – and crony of anti-Union Gov. Scott Walker – using a Dropkick Murphys song as an intro is like a white supremacist coming out to gangsta rap! Fitzgerald: if you and your staff can’t even figure out your music you might wanna give up on the politics!!!!! We stand beside our Union and Labor brothers and sisters and their families in Wisconsin and all over the U.S!

I liked them before and this makes me like them even more. Scott Walker and anyone associated with him are beyond deploreable.

Haha, why does it matter which party the politician was affiliated with?

Well, I'd imagine that, you know, the BAND is maybe not Republican?

Because what he's affiliated with is virtually in direct opposition to the band playing the song ... not sure what the fuck "this site" has to do with it though.

Because, from the statement, the band obviously has Democratic views, not Republican. If it had been a Democrat using the song there would be no statement, because they wouldn't care.

Did you really make a post that dumb?

I take it must be new to alternative music websites. I hate to tell you but 99% of people on websites like this and 99% of the bands you listen to are going to be towards the left in their political views.

It's not even a Democrat vs Republican thing. Wisconsin state legislature is trying to more or less murder organized labor. DKM is and has always been a very pro labor band. I mean shit, have you ever listened to Do Or Die? That entire album is full of pro labor singalongs.

When you think about it, it is. Democrats are pro union and Republicans are anti-union.

This is so unbelievably stupid. I guess I can't appreciate Childish Gambino/Donald Glover because he's black and I'm white... have any Adam Lambert songs on my iPhone because he's gay and I'm straight.... or listen to any number of atheist/agnostic artists because I'm not.

Bottom line is this: everyone who listens to the same song will take away something different, some may be really surprising. For an artist to say: "You're not allowed to enjoy our music because you are an (fill in the blank)" is ridiculous.
