Do you prefer listening to music with headphones or speakers? I've found that I have a much more personal connection with the music when I'm using headphones, but sometimes the expansive sound of the entire room being filled is worth it.
Headphones. I'll use speakers if I'm up and about in my apartment and am listening to stuff I don't have on my phone, but in general headphones retain sound better (don't find myself drowning out the music when I turn on the faucet to wash dishes).
Love the more intimate experience of listening on (nice) headphones, but since I'm deaf in one ear, sometimes certain parts get lost, so I usually go for speakers. I have some nice ones hooked up to my turntable that I really enjoy.
I have to share space with others, so I almost always listen via headphones. I wish I could listen via speakers more often. But I do appreciate how much more I can hear with headphones. I have some minor hearing loss in my left ear and so I miss stuff when I listen on speakers.
My favourite place to listen to music is in the car (well, it was until I crashed it yesterday). In the car there are no distractions other than watching the road. No one can interrupt your listening, you can't use your phone, it's just you and the music.
I like speakers (I love my iPod dock). I love it when the sound kind of fills the room. But I like headphones because they're pretty personal and they don't annoy other people. But I'd say speakers in general, but different for different circumstances.
While I generally resort to speakers with which to listen to music (computer speakers, car stereo), I prefer the intimacy of headphones. I like it when you can clearly hear the music panning (one guitar in left earbud, the other in the right earbud) and subtle placements of parts and harmonies. I find that with speakers, the music sounds more jumbled and less distinguishable.
