Yeah after people kept talking about Fireworks when Gospel came out I tried to get into them, and while they're not bad and seem like cool dudes, they just don't hold a candle to TWY.

I don't even really see Fireworks as much of a pop-punk band because of Gospel - they sort of sidestepped the genre with that record. Gospel is a fucking fantastic album, and I don't think they should be compared with TWY too much because they're two very different sorts of bands despite both of them coming out of the same scene.

I like Fireworks but they aren't even in the same league as The Wonder Years. That band can only dream of doing the type of things TWY do on TGG

Wow. I really wasn't expecting that. I think Gospel has blown most records out of the water and into space the past few years. The lyrics are so good.

As nice of a statement as that is, and as much as I appreciate it, I think that Gospel is the best record this sub-set of genres has produced in the last five years, easily. The nuance on that record is undeniable. The lyrics are my favorite the genre has ever seen and the drum and bass work is on par with Stay What You Are.

That said, its so nice to hear that you think TGG is even on that level because I consider it to be as good as it gets.

MerchNow. Granted, it probably still won't get here until the end of next week or something, but at least things are happening there.

This is pretty much how I feel. The Wonder Years are head and shoulders above every other pop punk band right now (and I say that without even having heard TGG). Fireworks rules though, just not quite as much.

Do we include The Menzingers in this genre?

I'd put them right up there with TWY, if not higher.

On The Impossible Past is one of my favorite albums in recent history.

Also, don't they normally email download codes to you if you buy the Vinyl?

I generally associate them more with punk than pop punk, but that's hardly even a distinction, so I guess it doesn't matter. That aside, I think the Menzingers are great, but none of their albums are on the same level as Fireworks or TWY for me. Even OTIP, while it has some of my favorite songs of recent years on it, feels really inconsistent to me. Yes, there's great stuff like "Casey," "Mexican Guitars," and "The Obituaries," but they're right alongside "Ava House" and "I Can't Seem To Tell," two songs that I just don't care for at all. As a result, I hardly ever listen to that album straight through. But I can't stress enough how awesome of a song "Casey" is.
