Tenth Avenue North - The Struggle
Record Label: Reunion Records
Release Date: August 21, 2012
With their third release, The Struggle, on Reunion Records, Tenth Avenue North (Mike Donehey on vocals and acoustic guitar, Jeff Owen on electric guitar and backup vocals, Ruben Juarez III on bass guitar and backup vocals, drummer Jason Jamison, and Brendon Shirley on keys) prove that they are at the center of the contemporary Christian music scene.
The album's highlights include the title track "The Struggle", with Donehey's vocals over a lush and haunting piano intro that builds to a strong melodic chorus. "Grace" starts off with a catchy drum beat and an organ intro that sounds like it could be a radio single from Train or One Republic. Donehey is a strong vocalist with a wide range but he is best when he starts soft in the intro and extends his voice during the chorus for a great juxtaposition. He fits perfectly with this kind of music and sounds fantastic when accompanied by Shirley on the piano and organ. The track "All The Same" showcases Donehey's vocals once again over an acoustic riff that would be the perfect soundtrack for a Grey's Anatomy montage.
Contemporary Christian music is slowly making its way up the charts and after debuting at number 9 on the Billboard 200 charts with The Struggle, Tenth Avenue North have once again shown that if you make good music, you will be heard.
