It's that time of year again. The one day in the entire year where MTV plays music videos during primetime hours (well snippets at least). For a channel that only shows full length music videos in the wee hours of the night, I find it hilarious that this awards show is still a thing. Anyways, some of the artists we cover have a prominent role in tonight's spectacle. This year's breakout band fun. is nominated for a handful of awards, including "Best New Artist" where they'll be against Frank Ocean and Joe DeAndrea's favorite artists One Direction and Carly Rae Jepsen. Ocean will also be performing live, as will be Green Day and Taylor Swift, who will be slut-shaming someone. In other awards, Drake and Gotye are up for "Video of the Year," while Imagine Dragons will try to capture "Best Rock Video." Skrillex will most likely win "Best Electronic Dance Music Video," and Rise Against will contend for "Best Video With A Message" (against Lil Wayne no less, go figure). But the "Best Hip-Hop Video" award might be the most anticipated category tonight, heavy hitter Kanye West racking up two nominations in this category - one with partner Jay-Z (for "N****s in Paris," the category's favorite) and another with his G.O.O.D. Music crew (swerve). He'll be challenged by Drake, the Mitt Romney-supporting Nicki Minaj, and AP.net favorite Childish Gambino. Anyways, we hope you join us in this thread to talk, argue, or make fun of the events that happen tonight in Los Angeles. Enjoy. The awards show begins at 8 PM EST.
