Who?
Produced by two-time Grammy award winner Bob Brockmann, an EP from singer/songwriter Maya Solovey of Brooklyn, NY
How is it?
A fresh face in the New York indie scene, Maya Solovey releases an EP filled with soft, soothing vocals and haunting melodies that blend with lush instrumentation to create a well-crafted set of songs. What Solovey does well is mix multiple genres into any given song, leaving the listener feeling refreshed as you pick up new elements with every listen. With a fun drum beat that includes hand claps, the track "Ring Ring Ring" sounds like it would be the perfect fit for an Apple commercial.
The high point of the record is the track "Bigger Man", a song that really accentuates Solovey's vocal and songwriting abilities with a soft piano intro that leads into a chorus with full, warm strings. The song also delivers one of the most powerful and clever lines of the EP when Solovey softly sings, "It takes a bigger man to stand by his woman when her heels have grown taller than his boots." It's an intimate moment on the record where you can feel Solovey's pain for her lover, willing to give up it all to keep him to stay. With the release of Forte, Maya Solovey proves that she has what it takes to be an "it girl" in the talented New York singer/songwriter scene.
