What's your definition of "mainstream media"?

Because Fox News is the highest rated news organization on television. Fox News programs held 11 of the top 12 cable news ratings in 2011. Hell, even repeats of Bill O'Reilly beats anything on CNN or MSNBC. So with that said, shouldn't Fox News be considered mainstream media, i.e. the prevailing direction of influence on viewers?
