Voting through early mail in ballot right now. Trying to be thorough in knowing what i'm voting for/against as far as these amendments go. Constitutional Amendment Article 1, Section 3 pretty much says if it is passed no person or entity could be denied Florida state goverment benefits based on religious belief (i agree with) AND the Florida goverment would be allowed to use state taxpayer money to directly and indirectly aid any church , sect , denomination , ect (which i don't agree with) Torn about this one.
EDIT
voted no because i think the last part violates seperation of church and state.

any interesting amendments on your guys local ballots?

voted yes for the amendment to prohibit public funding of abortion except in cases of illness ,rape , or incest.
I may be pro-choice but i don't believe taxpayer money should pay for abortions.

Not in agreement with you here. So you're pro-choice only for women who can afford the abortion?
I think taxpayer money going to healthcare should just go to fixing medical issues that could cause harm to someone. Being pregnant is not a dangerous medical issue (in most cases) As bad as it sounds abortion is an elective procedure.
I'm all for charity to fund abortions for women who can't afford it i just don't think taxpayer money should go towards that.

I kinda voted against my personal beliefs on abortion based on principal on that one , knowing it was an unpopular choice.

How does this one work? Sounds like I'd be in favor of it but I'd like to read a little about it.

the discount already exists but this amendment just expands it to include injured/disabled combat veterans who were not florida residents when they entered the military , in Florida the majority of disabled combat veterans are ww2 , korean , vietnam veterans who retired here so this means they all get the discount.

voted yes for the amendment to totally exempt or partially exempt widowed spouses of veterans and first responders who died in the line of service from paying state property tax.
another one you'd have to be a dick to vote against.

This makes me sad, but it seems to be the popular opinion around where I live too. Restrictions on what kind of abortion is "okay" just seems so iffy to me in addition to the funding. I know this is a bit off the issue here, but I just get scared when a bunch of middle aged white men try to define and limit what rape is, and I think things like this don't help. I guess I can see people who aren't pro-choice not wanting to pay for them, but meh, my money goes to a lot of things I don't support. I also don't care for pro-choice people who seem to be pro-choice, except for...

Not saying this is you, but I'm just projecting here haha. Abortions can be expensive, and I'd rather my money go to help pay for one than a woman have a baby she doesn't want or have an unsafe abortion because she can't terminate. Do you support taxpayer money going towards birth control?
On that issue my fiscal libertarianism came into conflict with my social libertarianism and my fiscal side won.
I didn't vote out of a bibical "abortion is evil" standpoint like most people who are going to vote that way are , but i don't think taxes should go to bailing out someone for being irresponsible and not using the resources our taxes already pay for like sex ed classes , condoms , and birth control.

Like i said i know it was an unpopular choice but i had to stick to my guns on that one

Didn't the Warren court put the kibosh on that sort of thing?
guess not since it's on the ballot.

I think in New York, we might have an initiative up for vote on the ballot which would make casino gambling legal statewide. It came about after Gov. Cuomo, Mayor Bloomberg, and the borough presidents decided building a casino in Coney Island would help out the area. Never heard whether it was made official or not though.
that sounds awesome.
But do you think legal gambling in nyc would hurt or help the mob?

http://www2.tbo.com/news/politics/20...-li-ar-519100/

that privacy clause was nowhere on the ballot.. might of reconsidered then.
fuck i got dooped. should have done more research before i voted.
still have my ballot maybe i'll fill in "no" as well so at least my "yes" gets cancelled out.

It's mistitled, and it's misleading," said B.J. Star, president of the West Pinellas National Organization for Women. "What is this 'Construction of Abortion Rights'? There's already a prohibition on public funding. That's one of the things that will grab the voter's attention, but it will take them down the wrong road
Quote:
The second clause in the title refers to language in the amendment that would specifically remove abortion from Floridians' constitutional right to privacy

My post really had nothing to do with you. I think it was someone else who was talking about being okay with abortion only in cases of rape. I also know my comment was a little off topic, but I've had those thoughts swirling in my head a lot lately with the renewed vigor to limit women's reproductive rights popping up everywhere.
it's aight i forgive you
